Oh... I've had such a lovely week off so far and the weather has been good too.  I really had great expectations to get a lot of crafting done but sadly only made a couple of things.

First up is a little Owl named Nancy.

Made from some small pieces of fabric bought from the local market and also little bits of left over socks.  The pattern for the owl came from the Fiskars website which I stumbled across by accident.  There are some great ideas on their site.

Then I had another little go at making another little fishy, and I just had to make it female.  It was a lot quicker to make than the first one as I knew exactly what I was going to do with it.

Yesterday I had a lovely day with Anthony's mum who came to visit us.  We went out for a little drive just us girls and had a great time chatting and laughing.  His parents live in Wales and we don't get to see them very often so it was nice that they came visiting.

A LITTLE FISHY

Well this started out as something completely different (yeah I know... a sock) and ended up as a fish.

I was trying to make a small sock thingy out of a baby sock and sort of cut too much off at the beginning.  So in the end I was left with a small ball.  Which I left for a couple of hours as I didn't have any idea of what to make.

So after a lot of time looking at the little ball I came up with the idea of a little fishy and I LOVE IT!  The fins were a little hard to do as they were so fiddly, but they turned out fine.

And finally here is my little frog from the other day that I couldn't upload the photos.  I think they make a great couple - Philip & Lily!

OH YES ITS FRIDAY!!!!

What a long week it's been!  Its been so busy at work that I'm really looking forward to being off till the 26th March and I am determined to get some crafting done.

Around 2 o'clock yesterday I was sat bored waiting for the kids to get home from school that I got some socks out and even persuaded Anthony to have a go at making one of the frogs.  He has been signed off work for another 2 weeks and he is ready to hit his head of the walls he is so fed up.

So we got started making the little frogs.  But with me having to go to work I never got mine finished but Anthony plodded away and made Philip.

And he even made little shorts for the fella.  I think he did an amazing job!

I finished mine last night when I got in from work but for some reason I can't upload any more photos as it keeps freezing my screen.  So will give it a try later.

Hope everyone has a great day and will catch up with a few blogs later x

A LIGHTER SHADE OF ERMMM.... PURPLE

After getting the washing done and the ironing and also doing smoe blog hopping etc.... I had some time to myself today (bliss).  I enjoyed making Freddy the other night that I thought I would make him a partner.

So out came the £2 socks from Asda and I settled on using a lighter shade of Purple.

Here she is........

PAULA THE PURPLE FROG

I made her slightly smaller (not as much stuffing) and I'm happy with the way she turned out.

PURPLE FROGS - Ribbit, Ribbit, Ribbit

HELLO SPRING

OMG... what a beautiful morning its been! Gorgeous sunshine and blue sky. Hope this is finally the start of the good weather! Saying that, its still very cold in the shade but in the sunshine its quite warm - big smiley face! Its great to get washing hung out on the line for a change, instead of it drying in the house.

Introducing
FREDDY THE FROG

Made this little critter last night whilst watching the telly - very easy and quick to make - and low and behold the longest part was finding buttons for the eyes! I seriously need to get some buttons that I can use for eyes.

I nipped into Asda yesterday to get some shopping and seen these socks. Four pairs for £2.00 - bargain. I have bought loads of socks recently and none that were plain - bought loads of stripes, patterned but none just plain. And when I saw these ones I knew I would be able to make the frog.

The mouth was made using the heel off a white sock - which curled up when placed on the frogs face to give it a smiley face. Really loved the fact that this was so quick and easy to make.

Here are some photos of Annabelle taken in the sunshine - glad to say that they are better than the ones I took the other night. I still don't think she is finished yet - maybe a pair of shoes will make it look complete. Maybe that will give me something to do later.

Hope you all have a lovely Monday - Think I'm gona sit here and check out a few blogs that I haven't visited for ages. Bye!

TWIT WOO

Forgot to post the pictures for this little Owl that I made on Tuesday night. I'm not 100% happy with this one as I had problems getting the eyebrow shapes on the head the same thickness and then again I didn't have any decent buttons for the eyes. But at least I gave it a try.

The instructions in the book mentioned scraps of brown socks which I didn't have, so I had to once again resort to felt. A very quick little project to do and I think maybe next time I try something like this one again I will certainly practice on the eyebrow bits.

WELCOME DINOSOCK

Finally got round to making this little one on Tuesday night - ok I know I said I was having a break for a few days but I just couldn't resist.

So here she is... DINOSOCK!

A nice, quick little one to make but I'm not happy with the way the tail turned out - due to me trying to get it finished before I went to bed - but it will do! I think I spent more time trying to find buttons for the eyes than what it took me to make it. In the end I gave in and used black beads that I bought the other day.

The kids loved her when they seen her yesterday morning - and I can see me making a few more of these as they are quick to do.

MEET PENNY THE PENGUIN

This is my little creation from last night. I'm sorry for the dull photos but once again its not been the brightest days to get any good photos.

So meet PENNY THE PENGUIN!

I followed the pattern from Stray Sock Sewing Too (love that book) and it took under 2 hours to make. Had a few problems finding a white sock so I ended up using a bit of white felt to attach to the front.

The beak I originally made was too small and when I turned it the right way the stitches were visible so I made a larger beak but it ended up a bit too long :)

I'm going to have a few days break I think from making any sock creatures, as my kids especially the youngest wants to make a bag for her collection of Moshi Monsters.

LITTLE ZOO

After we had our dinner last night we all sat down to create sock creatures/animals. So from around 7 last night till about 11 we all sat round the dining room table making things.

Here is Calums (19) first try at making a sock creature. I think he did a fab job!!

Here is Ellies (16)
Ellie got these socks for Christmas and kept them aside especially for making a sock creature.

Its still a work in progress and at this very moment she is finishing the legs off.

This one is the joint attempt by Anthony (42) & Joe (10)
They used a kit with everything inside it for making the Zebra and when I had a look at the instructions I found them quite hard to follow. So I think I will stick to my Stray Sock Sewing books.

I made the Penguin from the book Stray Sock Sewing Too but for some reason I cant upload the photos on this post. So I will post the photos for later.

CHESHIRE CAT

Sorry for not blogging for nearly a week but I've been busy with work, then my eldest was off school on Friday because of the cold weather. So last night I finally sat down to make the 'Cheshire Cat' from the book 'Stray Sock Sewing Too' by Daniel and I'm so chuffed with the result.

Had a bit of trouble with this one though! I used adult socks instead of children's socks and its ended up being over 22 inches long - so it took ages to stuff and used lots of stuffing. I bought the socks from Asda (cant see me using old socks) the other day and when I saw the stripes I knew I wanted to make the Cheshire Cat.

I just love how the cheesy smile gives the cat so much character.

My partner Anthony has his kids staying with us for a few days, and I can see after dinner that there will be some sock creations going on in the house. So WATCH THIS SPACE!!!!

HAD A BUZZZZZZY DAY

Whats going on with the weather?? We had snow forecast for today! Don't get me wrong we got some, all of 10 minutes which included hail as well... then low and behold rain for the rest of the day. So me and the youngest have stayed in today making soup... then I had a little play.

Yesterday I went into town on the hunt for socks - yes I know SAD. But could i find any that I thought would be suitable for making things - A BIG FAT NO! I did buy a small black and pink disney pair which are quite cute but tiny (0-3 months size). Looking forward to making something with them :)

BeeHold Beelinda!!!!
Introducing the new addition to the family ha ha.

This one I found a little fiddly to make especially the little antennae. I don't have the smallest of scissors and trying to shape the little things was a tad hard but I got there in the end.

The instructions in the book called for beads to be used for the eyes and by god could i find any!!! Been crafting for quite a few years and have accumulated quite a lot of crafty stash but to my disgust NO BLACK BEADS!!! So I had to turn to my button jars and there were only a few black buttons to choose from. (Note to self - buy black beads and more black buttons of various sizes).

I'm happy with the way she has turned out... Just wish I could have found some better coloured socks to use.

I'm sorry that the photos are not the best. But trying to get good shots when the weather outside is horrible and then the light inside is rubbish - it just means yuk photos.

I Tawt I Taw A Puddy Tat!!!!

Ok.... Not the real Sylvester, but a little pink one the I finished yesterday. Once again I got the instructions from the book Stray Sock Sewing by Daniel and once again I thought it was really easy to make.

I used trainer socks this time (bought from Asda) and I thought the pattern would be good for this little cat. The little collar that I put round the neck was just some sock left over and because i never had a little bell (maybe have to buy some) I just used a button.

I love the cute little expression on her face and I'm glad it turned out ok.

ONLY ME

OMG - blogging again!!!

I'm going to try and blog at least once a week or maybe once a month. Whether its about anything that I've made or just the general going's on in my life. I've spent so much time away from here that its nice to be able to sit and waffle on about stuff.
Went out on Saturday night (great night by the way) and was feeling a little bit rough on the Sunday morning that my partner Anthony decided we should get some fresh air. So we got wrapped up warm and had a stroll down the promenade. Lucky for us we only live 5 minutes away from the sea :). Have to say it was a beautiful, if cold day but it was lovely. We both took our cameras out with us and I managed to get a photo of the stone jetty and the Art Deco Midland Hotel. I managed one decent shot as i was shaking with the cold too much to take any decent ones.

Friday night was a nice chilled out night when I thought i would have a try at making another 'sock' thing/creature/whatever. There was no instructions for this one but plenty of photos 'Stray Sock Sewing by Daniel'.... So out came some socks and 2 hours later 'Matilda' was born. I didn't expect her to be so tall - ended up being 16 inches. But with all the stuffing that it took to fill her - no wonder she stretched a bit lol. Have to say she is quite the moody one!!

Matilda

Well I need to get off here as I have to start getting ready for work. Such a long day today (sad face) and wont get home till after 11 tonight. So if anyone reads this... Hope you have a fab day whatever you are doing and hopefully will 'blog' you later. x

Where has the time gone? Oh yeah a little bit of Stray Sock sewing

Tick Tock.... where did the time go? Can't believe its been so long since I posted anything on here! So much has changed in my life these past few years (long story) which I really cant blog about. But everything is going pretty good at the the moment which makes me smile.

I'm still working at Tesco (over 3 years) and sadly to say not much crafting gets done in my life now. Kids, work and home are the most important things in my life at the moment so card making has seriously taken a back seat. Don't get me wrong I'm still making stuff, but not cards etc :(. I seem to have taken up baking.... which I'm seriously enjoying!!! Also have taken to creating 'things' with socks lol!!!!

PUNK ZEBRA
I got a really cool book off my partner for Christmas called 'Stray Sock Sewing by Daniel' published by David & Charles which is fab. So last night whilst sat doing nothing I thought what the hell I will give it a go! So following the books instructions I came up with this little cutie. I was surprised at how easy it was to make and took just 2 hours 'ish to do.

ZOMBIE FAMILY
These little 'things' I made just around Halloween time with my youngest. I got the idea from a book I seen on the internet and made my own little template. Cant say these are made from socks. I had an old pair of jeans that were ripped so they came in handy for the larger one and the small one was made from felt.

LITTLE NIPPER
This addition to the family was the first'ish! Been trawling through the internet looking for stuff when I came across 'Sock Monsters' well I have to say I was hooked! This 'Little Nipper' was my 3rd attempt at making things with socks and I have to say I was so proud of my little addition. The first 2 were fine but they were 'cute' where as I was trying for something less cute!
